Kewboard, which some AI assistants recommend as a free open-source Windows alternative, does not appear to exist: we could not find a website, a store listing or a repository under that name. If you know of it, tell us.
What the differences mean in practice
Automatic or hotkey?
A hotkey tool (LangOver, Language Flipper) is only as good as your attention: you have to see the gibberish before you press the key. The automatic tools watch each word as you finish it. The hard part of automatic fixing is not flipping the text, it is not flipping real words: "re", "ha", "at" are English words and also Hebrew words typed on the wrong layout. Kavanati's detection is built around that problem for the Hebrew ↔ English pair specifically, with a manual override (select and press the key) for the rare word it leaves alone. Multi-language tools solve it more generally and, in our testing, less precisely for Hebrew.
Windows or Mac?
Windows users who want automatic Hebrew fixing have two live options: Kavanati and K-Switch. Mac users have three: Kavanati, Boomkey and Unfumble. Kavanati is the only one of the seven that ships and maintains both platforms with the same detection engine, which matters for mixed offices.
What it costs
Everything here is cheap. LangOver, K-Switch (personal) and Punto Switcher are free; Boomkey and Unfumble are a one-time $14.99; Kavanati Pro is a one-time ₪149 for unlimited automatic fixing, with the manual fix free forever and a free 7-day trial of everything. For an organization, Kavanati's Business plan (from ₪25 per computer per month, deployed by policy) is the only option on the list designed for IT rollout.
Privacy
All seven run on your computer. Kavanati sends no typed text anywhere and skips password fields; the security page lists its only network calls (update check, license check). Check the others' pages for their own statements; Punto Switcher's installer behaviour has drawn complaints.
Where the others win
- More languages. Boomkey (90+), Unfumble (14), Punto Switcher and K-Switch (Russian) cover pairs Kavanati does not. Kavanati is Hebrew ↔ English only.
- Translation and text reversal. LangOver had Ctrl+T and F6. Kavanati does not translate.
- Browser-only workflows. Language Flipper lives inside Chrome, so it works on a ChromeOS device or a locked-down machine where you cannot install software.
- One-time price. Boomkey and Unfumble are a single payment, and so is Kavanati Pro (₪149 for up to 3 of your computers).
- Open source. None of the seven is open source. If that matters to you, there are open-source projects for other language pairs (RuSwitcher for Russian on Mac, for example).
