LangOver (הפוך על הפוך) in 2026: does it still work, and what replaced it

Last updated: 13 October 2026 · 5 min read

LangOver, "הפוך על הפוך", was the free little program that gave Israel the F10 key: type akuo, press F10, get שלום. It was last updated around 2012, has no Windows 10/11 release and no Mac version, and it never fixed anything on its own. Kavanati does the same job in 2026: the fix is automatic as you type, there is still a one-key manual fix (Pause, ⌘P or a double-tap on Ctrl) that is free and unlimited, and it runs on Windows 11 and macOS.
You typedakuo nv akunfo
↓ then: F10 · now: automatically
F10 gave youשלום מה שלומכם

Who remembers F10?

If you worked at a computer in Israel between roughly 2005 and 2015, LangOver was probably installed on it. You typed a sentence, looked up, saw akuo nv akunfo, hit F10, and the gibberish turned back into שלום מה שלומכם. It was free, it was one megabyte, it sat in the tray and asked nothing of you. People still search for "הפוך על הפוך הורדה" and "LangOver Windows 11" every month, which is why this page exists.

What LangOver actually did

KeyAction
F10Flip the text you just typed (or the selection) between the Hebrew and English layouts
F6Reverse the text (for the days when right-to-left came out backwards)
Shift+F10Change letter case
Ctrl+TSend the text to translation
Ctrl+GSearch the text on Google

Everything was manual. LangOver never watched what you typed; it waited for you to notice the mistake and press a key. That was the deal in 2010, and it was a good one.

Does LangOver work on Windows 11?

Honest answer: sometimes, and nobody promises it. The last version on langover.com is 5.8.2, from the Windows 7/8 era, and the program has not been updated since. On Windows 10 and 11 some people report that it starts and F10 works in most apps; others report that the hotkey does nothing in modern apps (new Outlook, Teams, Chrome's address bar), that it breaks after a Windows update, or that SmartScreen blocks the old installer. There is no Mac version and there never was.

If you still run it: it is unsupported, unsigned software from 2012. It does what it did then, nothing more, and if it stops working after an update there is nobody to ask.

The same fix in 2026, without the key

Kavanati started from the same idea and removed the step where you notice. It runs in the tray (or the Mac menu bar), watches each word as you finish it, and when a word only makes sense in the other keyboard layout, it retypes it correctly and switches the layout, in every application. Real words in either language are never touched, and Ctrl+Z undoes a fix you did not want. If you miss pressing a key, you still can:

The free plan already does what hotkey tools do. The manual fix (select text, or fix a whole line with one key) is free and unlimited on every plan; Pro only adds unlimited automatic fixing. Comparing more tools? Tools to fix Hebrew gibberish and reversed Hebrew; deciding on the price? free or Pro.

Where LangOver still wins

Two things, and we would rather say them than have you find out. LangOver had Ctrl+T to translate and F6 to reverse text; Kavanati does neither, on purpose: it fixes keyboard-layout mistakes and stays out of the rest. And LangOver was free with no limits at all, while Kavanati's automatic fixing is limited on the free plan after the first week (the manual fix is not).

Frequently asked questions

Does LangOver work on Windows 11?
LangOver's last release (5.8.2) dates from the Windows 7/8 era and the program has not been updated since. The download is still on langover.com; on Windows 10 and 11 some people report it starts and others report that the hotkeys do nothing or that it stops after an update. There is no official Windows 11 build and no support, so treat it as unsupported software.
Is there a LangOver for Mac?
No. LangOver was Windows-only. On a Mac the equivalent is Kavanati (automatic fixes plus ⌘P for a whole line) or the free online flipper on this site.
What did F10 do in LangOver?
F10 flipped the last thing you typed between the Hebrew and English keyboard layouts (akuo → שלום). F6 reversed the text direction, Shift+F10 changed letter case and Ctrl+T sent the text to translation. Kavanati's equivalent of F10 is Pause on Windows, ⌘P on Mac, or a double-tap on Ctrl, and it also fixes words automatically as you type.
Is Kavanati free like LangOver was?
Partly. The manual fix (whole line or selected text, one key) is free and unlimited forever, like F10 was. Automatic fixing as you type is unlimited for 7 days, then 15 fixes a day on the free plan; Pro removes the limit for a one-time ₪149.
